Where there is unity…, God commands the blessing…Psalms 133

Unity is another powerful principle of Spiritual Warfare. We can know everything about spiritual warfare, we can pray a lot, and quote a lot of bible verses, but if we don’t have true unity, the enemy will be able to create a lot of headache for us.

This verse says that where there is unity, God commands the blessing… see, we have to know what this is really saying. Let’s look at a few examples of God commanding something.

God’s Commands

  1. In the beginning, God said , “Let there be light” and there was light…and Genesis 1:3. Total darkness – for many people, this represents…
  • The bills are there to pay. That is no way that you can get any help. Your wages is not enough…total darkness.
  • The doctor has said that you will have to take medicine all your life…you don’t know what else to do…you have tried so many things but it all looks hopeless…total darkness.

But out of nothing, God commanded the light to appear in the total darkness and the bible says that THERE WAS LIGHT. The issue here is that when God commands, everything else has to take a beck step, including the devil.

  1. In Mark 4:35-39, when the storm hit, the disciples were all afraid. They waves were so huge and the wind blowing so hard but Jesus was asleep in the Boat…Peter – “Master, don’t you care that we perish?” …Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and the waves – He commanded and suddenly the waves were calm and the wind ceased. That is incredible power!

When God commands, no demon can stop you, no sickness can hold you, and nobody can defeat you. And the way to God’s commands, is through UNITY.

  1. Lazarus – dead for 4 days and stinking in the grave – “Roll the stone away”…When a person is dead, he has to rise because God commanded it. Amazing and powerful.

The thing that we should really be seeking after is God’s command. When He commands, that’s it. It is done.

But what is the key to God’s Command? Unity…Unity…

Psalms 133 – “Where the Brethren dwell together in Unity…, God commands the blessing”.

But we need to really know properly, what is true unity because if we don’t understand what is true unity and we go ahead, thinking that we are in unity but we are not really in unity, we will be waiting for God to command the blessing and nothing happens.

So what is true unity?

Is it when a family lives together in the same house?

Is it when some church members meet together for a prayer meeting or cell meeting? Is this unity?

The problem is that we can stay in the same house or same building for years and yet have disunity and fight and hate each other. We can be in the same church or same cell group but still are not in unity.

So what is true unity? The good thing about the Book of Acts is that we can actually see how the early church lived out their Christian life and how they lived in unity.

  1. Acts 2:1 This phrase – One accord is the disciples coming together in Unity. To get a proper understanding, we look at the Greek word for “accord”. The Greek is homothymadon which has 3 similar but separate meanings – one mind, one accord (Agreement) and one Passion (Heart’s issue).

This is what unity is about…. To have one mind, one agreement and one passion.

And in spiritual warfare – the devil knows that when the family has one mind, one agreement and one passion, he is defeated in battle and God’s blessings will continue to be commanded.

So the devil attacks those 3 areas of one mind, one agreement and one passion. He attacks the minds of people with Gossip, jealousy and unforgiveness. He tries to make us tempted towards the world or other things so that we start to be divided in our passion for God. Next thing, family members start arguing , cell members start fighting, and the church starts suffering .

Even people’s passion for God starts to diminish and you see them miss church, stop praying often and generally drift in their relationship with God.

But there is one thing that builds brings healing to our relationships, re-fires our passion and builds unity everywhere and every time – Prayer.

See, I want you to understand something, the disciples were praying together days before this. By the time we come to chapter 2 of Acts, they were praying for days and this prayer united them in mind, in agreement and in passion…and the power of God fell on them.

  1. Acts 4:24 They all prayed in one accord. The same Greek word that is used in Acts 2:1 is used again here. With one mind and one agreement and one passion, the power of God shook the building and miracles began to happen. When God saw true unity, God commanded the blessing.

I do believe that God will not break His Word. If His People are in true unity, God will command the Blessing upon His people.

But the key is prayer…

Our couples have to pray together. When Bui and I started praying together, we started to see God’s blessing come and overtake us in so many ways. Our attempts to get a multiple entry visa to NZ finally broke through and we got a multiple visa recently for more travel in the future.

Cell groups must become a house of prayer. When we go through problems, let’s call the cell to prayer. Let’s pray all night. Let’s pray as couples and family.

Even individuals can have divided hearts. Psalms 86:11 says “Unite my heart to fear your name”. So we must also spend time with God in prayer so that our hearts may be united to have one passion for God and not divided.

When a church starts praying, great things can happen because in unity God will command the blessing.

Many years ago, a pastor in New York, Pastor Jim Cymbala – Pastor of Brooklynn Tabernacle Church – a small church that he took over was really struggling. Especially when more members left. After a while of pastoring, he grew desperate and cried out to God for help. One day, God spoke to him and said…

If you and your wife will lead My people to pray and call upon My name, you will never lack for something fresh to preach. I will supply all the money that’s needed, both for the church and for your family, and you will never have a building large enough to contain the crowds I will send in response.”

Their church grew and they started a choir which won 6 Grammy awards. Now they have about 16,000 members.

So build unity wherever and everywhere you go, and God will command His blessing.
