It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
Isaiah 40:22
Rain and more rain. Right now it’s raining in Nadi and it looks like the rain will continue for a few more days. Last week, a few other places around Fiji has been flooded and general conversation have been centered on the negatives of the weather.
In the midst of all this, how do we live and what kind of mindset should we have as Christians? When the general population is so focused on the negative circumstances of weather and general life around us, it is so easy to get pulled into the same kind of mindset.
As children of God, we know that rainy weather is temporary and the sun will still come out and shine. We know that floods will recede and life will return to normal.
So during the rain and the floods last week, I took this as an opportunity to pray and read and rest.
I went to church this Sunday and it rained very heavily and the wind was blowing very strongly. When I saw this, I thought that the church might be a bit empty. But to my surprise, when I stood to announce the week’s meetings after worship, I saw that the church was quite full and many of our members had turned up for worship.
I preached, closed the service and returned home knowing that we are going to do well this year. Our faith will not be moved by the weather or by circumstances. We are going to trust in our God and church will continue to move forward.
God sits above the circle of the Earth. That is enough for me.
